The graduate college "Leverage Points for Biodiversity Enhancement in Agricultural Landscapes (HABIT)" is a joint project of the University of Hohenheim (UHOH) and the Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Applied Sciences (HfWU). The aim is to gain scientifically sound and practically applicable insights that help to reverse the trend of progressive loss of biodiversity in agricultural landscapes.
The graduate college comprises twelve PhD projects that share a socio-ecological systems perspective and fit into an innovative conceptual framework on leverage points for transformation. In an interdisciplinary design, the three sustainability dimensions ecology, economy and society are considered. With an empirical focus on Baden-Württemberg, the research group considers different spatial and temporal scales and aims at (inter-)nationally transferable findings.
In doing so, it qualifies comprehensively skilled and scientifically creative doctoral students who are able to identify, evaluate, and respond to current and future challenges and risks to society and the environment by developing solutions for the benefit of the environment and society and introducing them into scientific and practical contexts. The interdisciplinary scope and solutions-oriented approach as well as the accompanying program of the Graduate School of the University of Hohenheim optimally prepare the doctoral students for careers in science and practice
